~ Apple Crisp ~

This dessert was served at "Get Stewed", a local foods dinner in October 2009.  The stews were made with all local ingredients and served in bowls handmade by Ede Walker that participants took home with them.  Ingredients with an * were produced locally.
1-1/2 cups all purpose flour
1-1/4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1-1/4 cups light brown sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 teaspoons salt
3/4 cup butter at room temperature*
   Cut in until well distributed.
   This may be refrigerated or even frozen and added to the top of fruit at a later date.
4-1/2 lbs. sweet-tart apples, peeled, cored and cut in 1/4 inch slices*
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup sugar or to taste
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
   Toss apples with lemon, sugar 7 flour and put in a buttered 9 x 12 x 2 inch glass or ceramic baking dish.
   Crumble topping over apples.
   Bake at 375 degrees F. for about 45 minutes or until topping is golden and apples are tender.
   Serve warm with whipped cream* or cheddar cheese*.
   Serves 8 - 10.
